Kickstart your career and get work-ready
Traineeships put you in a better position to compete for an Apprenticeship or other job.

Offering a mix of employability training, Maths and English support and work experience, Traineeships help you gain skills and confidence to prepare for working life. They are also great way to build your CV. After your work placement, you’ll get a reference and maybe a job interview too, if a role is available.

What is a Traineeship?

Traineeships provide three essential elements:

  • Work preparation training to give you skills and confidence for the workplace.
  • English and Maths support to improve your literacy and numeracy.
  • Useful work experience to give you a taste of the working world.

Employers are at the centre of Traineeships to ensure they give you the skills you need to secure a job and succeed in employment.

Who can do a Traineeship?

Traineeships are for young people aged 16 to 23. You could be suitable for a Traineeship if you:

  • are unemployed (or work less than 16 hours per week) and have little work experience
  • are aged 16 to 19 and are qualified below Level 3 (equivalent to two A Levels at grades A-C)
  • are aged 19 to 23 and are qualified below Level 2 (equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grades A* to C)
  • think you will be ready for employment within six months of starting a Traineeship.

Traineeships are an ideal opportunity if you are:

  • Motivated to get a job but lack the skills and experience that employers are looking for.
  • Want to do an Apprenticeship but currently lack the skills and experience needed.

How long does a Traineeship take?

Traineeships last anything from six weeks to a maximum of six months. NTS can help you plan the best option to fit to your career needs.

What do I have to pay?

Nothing, as Traineeships are fully funded.
