Course Directory / Driver CPC Initial Training

In addition to passing Multiple Choice, Hazard Perception and practical driving tests, drivers intending to drive goods vehicles professionally and having licence categories less than C1 at the time of taking their LGV test must gain a Driver Qualification Card (DQC) which is obtained by passing Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) Initial tests.

The Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) Initial tests are:

Driver CPC Practical Demonstration test

Drivers must pass both parts to get a Driver CPC qualification. Between the ages of 18 and 21, drivers of Goods Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, must have an Initial Driver CPC qualification whether driving professionally or otherwise. For those over 21, the qualification is required only if the driver is driving professionally.

Drivers must pass all 4 parts to get a Driver CPC qualification. Drivers between the ages of 18 and 21, drivers of medium-sized and LGVs must have an Initial Driver CPC qualification whether the driver is driving professionally or otherwise. Over 21, the qualification is required only if the driver is driving professionally.

  • Module 1 - Theory test (this includes 2 separate tests - multiple-choice and hazard perception)
  • Module 2 - Driver CPC case study test
  • Module 3 - Practical driving test
  • Module 4 - Driver CPC practical demonstration test
